About Royal Perth Hospital
Royal Perth Hospital (RPH) is the premier teaching hospital in Western
Australia. Its history can be traced back to the first colonial hospital, which
was established in a tent on Garden Island in June 1829.
Today, RPH is the largest health unit in Western Australia with 867 beds on two
campuses, one at Wellington St and the second at Shenton Park. Both sites have
a wide range of complex health services. The Shenton Park campus has 221 beds.
The Wellington Street site is Western Australia's major trauma centre with
Helicopter access.
Royal Perth Hospital provides services to people from all parts of Western
Australia, a state that covers some 2,526,000 square kilometres which is 33% of
the total size of Australia. The Hospital treats a mixed socioeconomic and a
culturally diverse population and its services are directed towards meeting a
wide range of needs for these people.
